Sometimes, discussing the origins of life on planet Earth reminds me of the British Houses of Parliament. Evolutionists reside on one side, Creationists on the other and a few undecideds looking on. The red lines originally separated Parliamentarians and their swords from each other. They could only be ‘crossed’ by a government or shadow-government spokesperson at the wooden “dispatch box”. Harsh rhetoric took the place of swords on the House floor. Such is the animus between Bible-believing Creationists and Evolutionists. But, is there a middle ground where science and Judeo/Christian Scriptures can meet and even come into agreement, a place where the circles of belief overlap?
I believe that there is an overlap where natural science and sections of Scripture give evidence to each other, a place where respectful discussion can take place. Put-aside discussions over how old the earth is and how long it took for life to be established for a moment. Let us begin by looking at how it all began–according to Scripture and science–and let us contemplate what I see as common ground. This is referred to as Dual Revelation … a place where Scripture (22 areas–ranging from Genesis.1 to Revelation) and natural sciences can (and do) give evidence to each other. Together, they point back to God, the transcendent Creator of our world.
As a Christian, I concur with the psalmist who wrote: “The heavens tell the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. … The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it.”[i]
The Bible states: “By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.”[ii] I believe that God transcends life and the universe, that he put into motion the mathematical laws of physics and space & time dimensions.

In my school chemistry lessons, we learnt that the evidence that we first observed must be repeatedly and objectively tested with accurate parameters– in order to confirm the original hypothesis (objective assumption)–thus proving a theory. Science is an evolving study where new theories are developed new technologies provides new evidence. Einstein developed 2 theories in the early 1900’s –the Theory of Relativity & the General Theory of Relativity[iv] – and the latter led to the model of an expanding universe that had a beginning in time. Hugh Ross (a Christian cosmogonist, apologist and author) refers to how Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity has been used by astronomers.[v] He states that “The thoroughness of testing
and precision of results leave no reasonable basis for doubting that a causal Agent [God] outside space and time brought the universe of space, time, matter, and energy into existence.”[vi]
God created each creature and commanded that it reproduced its own kind.[vii] Dr. Crick–an atheist and co-discoverer of DNA–accepted that there is almost no possibility that life could have spontaneously generated from Earth’s inorganic chemicals. American microbiologist Homer Jacobson states that it was a virtual impossibility for the conditions, complexity and number of materials to coalesce and create life without supernatural intervention and divine design.[viii]
I believe that God did form “man” from the dust of the earth, and that he breathed life into him.”[ix] NASA researchers that clay and soil found “in the dust of the ground” contains every single element found in our human bodies! They concluded that: “The biblical scenario for the creation of life turns out to be not far off the mark.”[x]
… I will
continue this discussion in my next blog on how I believe life began.

[iv] The theory (known as GR and GTR) is a geometric theory of gravitation that states that gravitational forces are equivalent to forces caused by acceleration–that the physical effects of gravity equal those of acceleration. As I am writing this as a general blog, suffice it to say that GTR equations are used by physicists and astronomers to accurately access (within time and space) physical phenomena such as the life and death of stars and black holes, the evolution of space and the dynamics of planets.

This is called a transcendent miracle, and it operates outside of the natural laws of nature.
